Artist Biography

Born in Australia, Naida Adell Ginnane first studied Visual Arts in 1985, completing a B.Ed (Art) followed by a M. Ed in 2004 and a Grad Cert. Eval in 2014.

Naida has worked teaching the Visual Arts for more than 30 years, specialising in a range of techniques including 35mm SLR photography and dark room process, painting and drawing. More recently she has focused on digital imagery and film-making. Her students have won state Art/ Design awards and graduated to become successful artists in their own right.

A full-time artist since 2014, Naida has exhibited in numerous art fairs and solo exhibitions in Singapore, Hong Kong, Sydney and Noosa. In 2023-5 Naida published more than thirteen ‘how to draw’ books for children and adults.

Artist’s Statement

As a sensitive child, often unseen, I made sense of the world through private, imagined spaces — first through drawing, later through photography. Art education gave me the knowledge and the privilege to teach Visual Arts for years; now, as a full-time artist, I use that same eye to create work that draws attention to the greater Things Unseen. I don't believe art's job is to be pretty — it's to challenge how we see and think, using ambiguity and mixed media (drawing, photography, digital and print) to guide the viewer somewhere they wouldn't normally look.
