Theme: Geometric Shapes
This week we explore geometric shape as a photographic subject.
Geometric shapes are usually characterised by a sense of measured order, repetition or symmetry.
The predictability of geometric shapes creates a sense of visual calm. We understand that the shape will remain regular and expected rather than the uncertainty of an organic shape that is completely random.
This challenge tends to produce abstract images featuring repeated patterns.
- This is a great theme if you live in urban areas, obviously architecture lends itself well.
- As shape is the main idea, look for texture or colour to add interest
- If you're shooting something flat like a pattern on the road, make sure your composition is strong and dramatic, otherwise it will look flat.
- To emphasise the theme, fill the frame with your shape so that your audience understands the concept.
