What is the latest?
Lots of people have been asking me what I've been working on lately, so here goes...
There has been lots of big news on the personal and artistic fronts of late.
First of all, hubby and I have finally seen the building commence on our retirement forever home. It has taken years to design, save, negotiate, make decisions, laugh and cry, but it has finally begun.
As some of you will know, living overseas as an expat yields its benefits, but it also requires lots of sacrifices- namely missing family. Soon we will have a home base nearer to our sons and extended families.
As you can imagine we are super excited and look forward to every stage of the build by our dearest friends at Clout Constructions on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
I will be sure to keep you updated on the building progress.
What? No exhibitions?
2017 was a bumper year with 7 group exhibitions, 2 solos and 2 permanent shows in three different countries. It's exhausting just typing it...:) Despite all that fun, I decided to consolidate my efforts in 2018 with less exhibitions and more exploration in the studio. After all, Artists' gotta do what they gotta do right?
52 Week Photography Challenge
Yes, I'm still persevering with the challenge and we're up to Week 37 'Asymmetry'... only 15 to go! I must say it is a huge effort but I am certainly discovering new favourite ways to compose and shoot my photography. The best part is I'm able to share what I learn with my website visitors and you... my precious subscribers.
One of the most important issues for artists is exposure. How do you get your work 'out there' aside from exhibiting? Static galleries are becoming less popular now with patrons flocking to online sources for their art. So since November 2017, I have undertaken online study to learn brand management and social media marketing. To say it's hugely overwhelming is an understatement. Sometimes it's like paddling out into a very strong current in a leaky boat when you drop your oars and there is no-one around to save you.
One thing I have learned is that it's too easy to lose your focus when you get tangled up in the online marketing world. At the moment, I'm rationalising my social media accounts and my online presence to make more time for creating. It has only taken me about 10 months to figure this out- I'm a quick learner!
I have also been experimenting with painting as a medium to express my thoughts on the environment in a more tactile, expressive way. Although I love photography, I also love the immediacy and gestural qualities you can only get with painting techniques. More on that and other exciting topics to follow...
BTW In case you're interested, I have some very affordable prints left from my Gardens By The Bay exhibition in 2017.
Original print exhibited at Gardens by the Bay, Singapore, Aug-Oct 2017.
Each unframed image 59 x 42 cm is printed on 260gsm lustre/ satin finish photograph paper with a .5cm foam backing board. This is a single edition print- there will be no further prints made in this format, making them highly collectable. Each image is signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
That's all from me today. See you next time!
